MLA, Citations, Headings and More!


Below is some information on how to ensure your paper is formatted in MLA formatted.

MLA Information

  1. Enclose the direct quotation in quotation marks.
  2. Reference the original author or title (if no author) and page number or line number (verse).
  3. Place punctuation after the parenthetical citation.
  4. If a quote does not have an author, use the key words of the article title
  5. If a quote does not have a page number, use the publisher or website name


Double-space the text of your paper, and use a legible font (e.g. Times New Roman). Whatever font you choose, MLA recommends that the regular and italics type styles contrast enough that they are recognizable one from another. The font size should be 12 pt.


Example Quote Citation - 
Mr. Greene, author of “An Example MLA Citation” say, “Notice that the period comes after the citation” (Greene, Blogspot.com).


In “The Way the Internet Works” journalist Mr. Greene states, “Sometimes websites do not have an author. In that case, use the keywords of the article title and the website name in the citation” (Internet Works, Blogspot.com).
